Why are we doing this?

12 years ago the founders of Tranqvillium have decided that they wanted to live by different principles than what main stream society is built upon. At the time it was not quite clear what that meant, but through the years a set of principles, crystallized, and it was decided that they could and should be put in practice.

One of the most important ones is living SUSTAINABLY. This means the practice to meet the demands of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. This has to be applied first to the natural environment, second to the community and third to the individual, in this order of priority.

NON-VIOLENCE is the second principle, which means the use of peaceful means, not force, to accomplish goals. Peaceful, in this context is defined as not causing physical harm or using the threat of physical harm explicitly or implicitly. This method should be applied both to actions and communication.

A NON-PROFIT approach is equally significant as the pursuit of ever increasing profit and hoarding power over resources is the practice that gifted us austerity, natural destruction, inequality and the long list of different forms of human suffering.

CONSENSUS DECISION MAKING in small communities is the only form of decision making that can guarantee that everyone’s voice is heard and no decisions are made without all participants agreeing to an acceptable solution, and so a higher level of satisfaction of individuals can be maintained.

ACCOUNTIBILITY, individual and group INTEGRITY, CONTINUITY in planning and execution, and INCLUSIVITY are the values that will govern the everyday operations of this experiment.

The reason WHY this experiment is conducted, and widely documented in open, publicly available media, is to prove (or disprove) that greed, indifference to others’ suffering, speciesism, destruction of natural environment are not human nature – as it is often declared – but rather social constructs with which most humans are deeply indoctrinated but could do much better without.

If you feel that these principles hold value for you, and you want to challenge yourself and the world to see if it is indeed possible to live better by these, join our team in creating the prototype of a better future.
